RE: storage

I keep everything in the trailer. If I am worried about cans exploding or bottles and jars breaking I put them in a plastic tub while in the trailer during the winter. If it is going to get below 25 degrees for a couple days or more I turn on the heat at the lowest setting.

RE: External Dial Up Modem

There are lots of rural areas that are too far from the switchboards to get DSL and too far out for cable. I know plenty of people who don't want to pay the price for satellite internet equipment, can't afford it or have something blocking the view to the satellite. The only thing left for them is dial up.

RE: Is antenna booster really needed for DTV on batwing antenna?

Thanks for the input. I'll just have to live with it. Doesn't matter if I am in town or 40 miles from the station if I do not turn on the power booster there is no picture. If it is on and I turn it off the picture freezes. I was thinking that while in the city the signal would be strong enough I could bypass the booster, but from some of the answers it appears the booster is part of the antenna. When working in the trailer at home I was wanting to be able to just turn on the tv without turning on the booster. I forget to turn it off sometimes when I leave the trailer. Also I will be boondocking a week at a time during hunting season and didn't want to run the generator as much as I usually do for my dad to be able to watch tv since he doesn't hunt anymore because of foot problems. I can hear the generator from 2 of my tree stands so I will be adding a second battery bank and inverter just for the tv and sat dish for his entertainment while I am out hunting.

RE: Windows XP and Google Problems

I was having a problem on a firearms forum recently where i had indivual shortcuts to different threads. When I opened the first one then closed it the others would not work nor would the original when I tried to open it again. This went on for about a week. Then my computer alerted me that I needed to down load Windows Service Pack 3. After down loading it the problem has never happened again.

RE: Let me tell y'all how fast paint dries!

Try denatured alcohol on the plastic to remove the paint. It shouldn't harm the plastic. My dad was a maintenance superintendant at a high rise appartment building. I worked for him about 4 straight weeks between jobs and mostly painted appartments with latex paint and laytex semi gloss enamel. We used the alcohol to clean laytex paint specs off of the wall plates for electrical outlets, light switches and the edge of carpeting along the base boards where the drop cloths pulled away from the baseboards while we painted. Be sure to spot test some of the plastic where it cannot be seen just in case it does damage the finish on your plastic. If it does you may be able to use some armoural or conditioner to restore the look of the plaastic.

RE: I'm sitting in the dark and need your help!

I am currently staying in my travel trailer connected to shore power. I woke up this morning to find my lights, water pump and fans not working. I have power to the microwave and outlets, so I know it isn't a shore power issue. One thing I did notice that was odd was that my bathroom GFCI outlet was tripped (was charging my toothbrush overnight). I have tested the two main 30A fuses to the converter, but both test fine. I'm not sure what to do at this point? Any advice would be very welcomed! By the way, I do not have a battery connected to the trailer - everything has been working fine for a month until today...
Everything that is not working is 12 volt, nothing to do with GFI outlet. You need to check your panel and 12 volt fuses.
Steve
I don't think you have two main 30A fuses to the converter. I think you are talking about the 120V/12V power panel. Is your converter that feeds back toi the panel plugged into the GFIC circuit. In my trailer the fridge and converter are on the GFIC circuit so if the GFIC trips the converter will not be working. So after several hours the battery could be drained depending on the 12V load and there would be absolutely no 12V power.
The converter feeds the battery and the 12V side of the power panel.

I have a 2000 Coleman Fleetwood pop up. The brochure I have for the 2000 model trailers shows a picture of the one you have as an option.

Is antenna booster really needed for DTV on batwing antenna?

I have 2 LDC/HD tv's in my TT. Since I don't have to worry about analog channels anymore and the signals I receive are digital it makes sense the strength of siginal should not be critical except at long ranges. As long as the tv is reading the digital signal whether weak or strong it still should convert the data into a picture. I have to turn on the antenna booster in order for the signal to pass through so I can watch local tv. If the booster is not really needed I could bypass it and not have the added drain on my batteries while boondocking. Has anyone bypassed their booster for DTV? Just wondering before I take mine apart and break something?

RE: teflon tape on anode rod

We found if we turn it backwards to start you'll feel the threads climb over and drop slightly. This sets the threads in the right position and you can safely start turning the right direction.
This is a good habit to get into when starting any threaded connection. It is very important to do when starting bolts and nuts "by feel" in an inaccessable place.
I also use a socket on the end of a 6 inch extension. I tear a piece of cardboard like cereal boxes are made of and wrap a small piece around enough of the flats of the hex to make it fit tight in the socket so it holds the anode and plug straight. Then I insert it in the hole and as suggested by Mike turn it backwards until I feel the threads drop. The reason I do this is because I don't have enough room to get my fingers in close enough to hold the anode straight and on my water heater the hole is drilled and tapped at a slight angle so I also have to hold the extension and anode at a slight angle to keep from cross threading.

RE: Winterizing Hot Water Heater

You should wait until the water heater cools down before winterizing it. I never winterize when mine is hot since I could get burned by the hot water.

RE: Ohio income tax

In a way he did gain by paying more taxes to the states by getting it back and then some from the fed taxes.
wait a minute, if he claimed the full amount on the fed. taxes, but got a refund from a state for part of the amount claimed on the fed tax, he cheated on his fed. taxes.
bumpy
Never mind you still don't get it and I am done trying to splain it. He did not cheat on his taxes.

RE: where to find a pantry for a pop up

I bought 2 folding bookstands simililar to these from Ollie's Bargain Outlet earlier this year for about $29 each. In my pup I have a flip up counter top with a sink and a stove top. The stove top can be removed for use outside. Since I never use the sink and stove in the pup I keep the counter top insert used to fill the spot where the stove top sets permanently in place. I can put both book cases side by side on the counter top and use them as instant shelving for what ever. If I decide to use the sink I can flip the bottom shelve up out of the way on the book case that sets over the sink.
I may get a couple more to use on the side goucho counter top.

RE: Ohio income tax

A friend moved to Rhode Island from Virginia. He was there for a year and a half and moved back to Virginia. When he did his taxes after moving back both states made him pay taxes for the full year when he filed the state taxes for each state. He was going to fight it and the guy doing his taxes told him not to bother. The guy doing his taxes claimed the full amount from both states on the friends federal taxes when he itemized deductions. The amount he got back from the feds more than made up for what he lost to the 2 states by not paying the partial year for each state. Go figure.
that doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me, IIRC, the states I have lived in have a space for indicating dates of residence. Now property tax may be different. In VA, if you own a boat on Jan 1, and sell it Jan 2, you pay property tax on it for the whole year. I always prorated income when I moved. And I don't see how it is possible to gain money by paying the extra tax.
bumpy
This did happen several years ago, and I was there when they were discussing the problem with the state taxes. The guy was going over my taxes when the friend walked up and told him about each state wanting taxes for income earned during the full year. I can only tell about what I heard. As far as getting back more money it was when he itemized his federal taxes and listed the taxes paid to each state when he itemized. Since he paid each state the full year the amount he claimed when itemizing was higher. Combined with moving expenses, medical for the family and everything else he claimed the addition of the higher taxes paid to each state caused him to get back more from the his federal return. The difference he got back from the feds was more than he lost to the states. It's just the way the numbers worked out in his case.

RE: Any places to get RV antifreeze cheap?

Northern had it on sale cheap last year, don't remember how much. I bought a case (6 gallons). Did not winterize since I kept the trailer heated on days temps were below 30. I did pour a gallon of antifreeze in the p-traps and black tank.

RE: Update 29 Days after "We were robbed"

Hmmmmmm. Go to NC, steal a trailer, use it, take it back to Canada, call the owner, tell them you bought it from someone at a Walmart in Kentucky, hold it for ransom. You get a free trailer to use to vacation in the US and then make the owner pay you to get it back. Not a bad scheme.
Since I first heard of this story and with all the scams that occur today I wondered in the back of my mind how someone could be stupid enough to buy a TT in another country in a parking lot without doing a check to make sure it was not stolen. I don't remember but did the Canadian lady say if she got a title with it when she "bought" it? Something stinks about this one and I think it is the Canadian lady. If she wasn't involved in the theft she must have had an idea it didn't sound quite right, but didn't worry until she couldn't get it registered in Canada. Now she wants to try to get some of her money back from you or the insurance company.
